Why Salamyaan you’d ask? Filipinos love hanging out, sitting or even standing together in a shed, a table, a street corner… to talk about any topics that catch their fancy or to simply bond. The location for these “sessions” is called “Salamyaan” which is synonymous to the colloquial word tambayan.
In some localities like Marikina, the term salamyaan has deeper cultural meaning. For Marikeños, it means a modest shed or a house without walls where locals, especially elders converge. The topic of conversation may be anything of significance or none at all, but the most popular subject in salamyaans is politics.
